.... et quand il pleut ...

Le ciel pleurie! Boff, je prend ma parapluie et vais au cinema!

Hah! It rains so what! Stiff upper lip and all that .... once I stopped sobbing I checked out the listings. My choice being Millenium (one 'n' in Froglandian, ok I know it needs an accent - boy are you picky) which is The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by another name. What a great choice.  It wasn't even ruined by Daniel Craig's acting (is that acting?). Bonzer. If one is squeamish, likes romances and not really into the baser things in life then I would think about something else - Disney it is not!. Good yarn - that it certainly is!

No it isn't my photo. Heck, Daniel isn't speaking to me anyway ......

Seulement en France .....

Beautiful apartment, mais les voisinage?

Vegan as alien as Vogon?

Thais eat everything so it is an odd concept to me to limit the ingredients to vegetables and also exclude any animal produced elements - yep, your basic Vegan.  Not to be confused with Vogon food.  I do not think Vegans have the strength to consider building a Inter-Galactic Superhighway .... I digress.

David Holis is a really good chef.  He led a bunch of us through the basics of creating an excellent Thai menu based on vegetables equally adaptable to meat munchers.  The whole evening worked  really well. Very enjoyable and ending up with everyone sitting down to devour the delights prepared by our own fair hands .... ok, David did most of it!

I wonder if Vogon food is as much fun?  I'll ask.

Yet more pictures of the Old Town ..... grief ....

I NEVER do restaurant reviews:

Here are two.  As we are in France then what about a yummy Brazillian?  There are two sides to the menu in this place, one is Brazillian and the other is Italian - I have no idea why so don't ask.

Or hankering after some traditional British food?  Then try this place which will spice stuff up to order. It is Tough to find spicy stuff in France as tout le monde appears to aiment bland if it isn't one of 'theirs'!

Antiques - Place Garibaldi on Saturday

What better way to spend Saturday than having a mooch amongst the antiques in Place Garibaldi then sitting in the sun having a coffee or better yet lunch?  An ideal time to wonder if this guy Gary really was a baldy and why they insist on spelling things funny over here .....

An Evening at Beverley's

In the company of Dr Andrea Pennington and Chris Fine-Thompson.

Un euro pour l'electricite svp?

Yes, I am still annoyed about my flight on Monday.  Took a delay which originally was to have been 3.5 hours that ended up as 2.5 hours.  Why? Well, it seems the landing lights at Nice were not operating! They give all manner of reasons (see Nice Matin article); however, the truth is they didn't pay the bill - come on we all knew that really didn't we?  An alternative and believable explanation is that since the festive season has now passed all pretty twinkling lights should be switched.

Whatever the reason the personal cost to me was ENORMOUS ..... a full 40, yes 40, euros for a taxi from the airport to the Port!   True it was after midnight but even so .....

Tramway Ligne 2 - L'est cote?

It has generally been the view that the new ligne 2 would end up at Place Arson.  Returning to Nice I found taped to the lobby door a petition against a revised proposal.  Briefly it says the new line will run underground from Garibaldi down Segurane (makes sense) then turn left emerging  in Anton Gautier which would be replaced by a cutting (trench) and from there forward overground to the Ile de Beaute aka Le Port. It would involve the demolition of buildings in Segurane, which is obvious given the sharp left hand route the line would need to take. Very interesting and worrying for anyone considering a purchase in the Antiquarian Quartier comme moi!! Everyone seems quite blase about the whole thing, curious.

And there is more .... the line will then go from the port up Arson turning a brief right after a few blocks to join Blvd Riquier then on to the Gare Riquier.  All makes sound sense.  Ultimately wonderful for the area, BUT what about living in the area during construction??

The map shown is the latest that can be found.  It shows Cassini, Segurane is shown under the marker line. A link to the interactive map: Ligne 2 route

Les Lyonnais - Gangsters Francais!

What a movie this was!  Pauvre gitan gosses qui cambrioler les banques! No shortage of violence. No shortage of savagery. No shortage of passion. Plus a chance to glimpse a Facel Vega HK500! The French was really difficult to take in, thankfully the actions pretty much said it all.  Classic French movie - one I would watch again.

Saw this one at the Cinema des Varietes on Victor Hugo in December forgetting to blog it as the WiFi decided to stop ....
